The goal is to provide clinical support to aid positive changes in behavior without removing the youth totally from his or her typical environment. It is the intent of the program to provide an intermediate level of care for a youth who has not yet progressed to a behavioral severity warranting residential treatment, but who requires the structure of daily services, or for the youth who may need this type of structured setting following treatment at the residential level to aid in the re-entry to his or her home environment. Transportation is provided to consumers involved in the STEPS program. On-Site Alcohol/Drug Testing Health Recovery Services, Inc. holds a contract with Redwood Toxicology Laboratory to conduct the laboratory testing for substances. The program rationale is to prevent failure by providing participants holistic support to overcome their barriers to success. Dr. Robert J. Meyers’ Adolescent Community Reinforcement Approach (ACRA) is the foundation for treatment at the Outpatient services program. ACRA is a research based treatment approach that seeks to address adolescents’ substance abuse problems by focusing on environmental factors that impact and reinforce substance using behavior. This approach is founded on the cornerstone that environmental factors play a crucial role in addictive behavior and recovery. The use of skills training and positive reinforcers for non-drinking (sober) and non-using (clean) assist the adolescents in coping with negative triggers for use, thus guiding them toward success in their sobriety and recovery. Outpatient service youth receive academic services from certified educational staff through a strong, individualized component structured to achieve benchmarks such as a high school diploma, GED or vocational training; while clinicians integrate assessment, individual and group counseling support for all mental health and recovery needs. Research based outcomes verify the need to address multiple life domains at the same time in order to achieve the objectives necessary for youth and their families to succeed. Therefore, case management and family therapy represent an integral component of the Outpatient services program. The entire continuum of care is readily available during the school day and service provision follows the individualized treatment plan that outlines clinically appropriate levels of care. The HRS Outpatient philosophy integrates the state endorsed framework strategies of clearly communicated standards, mandates and policies, leveraging financial resources, ongoing prevention training, research-based decision making and ongoing analysis. Outpatient services programming combined with the Athens and Logan alternative education models exemplifies community based collaboration that strives to achieve Ohio's new Shared Agency Prevention Framework's goals to boost prevention, intervention and clinical efforts. These goals represent the basis for the Ohio Department of Education Substance Abuse and Violence Prevention Policy, whose mission is to help all Ohioans fully realize their potential to live, work, learn and participate fully in their communities.
